Dogs Trust Manchester rehomes its 4,000th pooch

Dogs Trust Manchester is celebrating finding its 4,000th rescue dog its forever home.

Two-year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Butch was being cared for at the Denton-based rehoming centre having been found wandering the streets of Stockport.

Butch has now taken the accolade of being the 4,000th dogs to be adopted, having stolen the hearts of Emily Gregory and Joseph Towse.

Since opening in October 2014, the centre has found homes for dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds, and they are hoping that it won’t be long before three-year old Foxhound Charlie and Dutch Shepherd Mia are the next to say a fond farewell to them.

Rehoming Centre Manager, Dawn Bishop, said: “It is fantastic that we have rehomed so many dogs and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone that supports us, from people who choose to adopt to our volunteers and players of People’s Postcode Lottery, who help us to make sure we can give our dogs everything they need whilst they are with us. We wouldn’t be able to care for dogs in the way we do without a community of passionate dog lovers.”

Every day of the year, Dogs Trust Manchester cares for around 80 dogs who are waiting for their forever homes. In the four and a half years the rehoming centre has been opened, it is estimated that approximately:

  • 400,000kg of dried food has been eaten
  • 60,000 tins of dog food have been devoured
  • 15,000 packs of doggie treats have been enjoyed
  • 160,000kg of bedding has been washed

Dawn adds: “Looking after so many dogs every day of the year and making sure they are happy and healthy is a huge task. We couldn’t do it without the support of the public, so we want to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has helped us find homes for our gorgeous dogs.

“We also want to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported us in other ways too, donating bedding or towels or items for our fun day and of course our volunteers who work alongside us every day, including Christmas Day, to give our dogs extra walks and cuddles and help us out with everything from the laundry to kennel cleaning.”

Since 2014, players of People’s Postcode Lottery have raised over £11.7 million for Dogs Trust, that has ensured dogs receive all the TLC they need whilst they wait to meet their forever families.
