Paws.com launches Chow Down Challenge to feed shelter dogs

To support 130,000 dogs taken in by UK shelters every year, Paws.com is launching The Chow Down Challenge.

The Chow Down Challenge is a nationwide social media craze that will see 250,000 healthy meals being fed to shelter dogs across the UK by the end of the summer.

The challenge started on Monday 24 June where Paws challenged dog lovers to show their pup chowing down their favourite meal/ For every mealtime shared online, Paws will feed a healthy meal to a shelter dog in the UK.

If you want to get involve, all you need to do is:

  • Share a video, photo or GIF of their pup ‘chowing down’ their dinner to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter
  • Mention #BuyFoodGiveFood and @Paws
  • Nominate and tag 3 friends to keep the ‘bowl’ rolling

Neil Hutchinson Founder of Paws, says: “In 2018 we launched a mission to tackle pet abandonment. Buy Food, Give Food is an initiative which helps with the UK’s brilliant independent dog shelters, many of whom struggle to get funding and afford healthy meals for their dogs.

“We’re hoping that the Chow Down Challenge will spread the word even further about these unsung heroes, and we can’t wait to see what the nation’s dog-loving community has to share. We know they will make a difference to those all-important meal donations, these amazing shelters and their brave dogs.”

Buy Food, Give Food

With support for independent dog shelters baked into its business model, Paws.com’s Buy Food, Give Food initiative has already helped feed over 100,000 dogs.

With every subscription order, Paws customers feed a healthy meal to a shelter dog in need. That’s a whopping £49,388 of bags of donated. And next week, Paws will be launching the Chow Down Challenge across social media to further help reach their goal of feeding 250,000 meals to shelter dogs this summer.

Why get involved?

Paws is committed to tackling pet abandonment, and Buy Food, Give Food is just the first step in that mission. By providing nutritious meals for shelter dogs across the UK, Paws customers help improve their health, happiness and chance of being rehomed.

Stephanie Wenban, Paws Vet, said: “Dog arriving in shelters can often have a range of issues, both physically and emotional, so it’s sometimes easy to overlook the importance of a good diet. Poor nutrition can lead to an increased susceptibility to disease, skeletal abnormalities, skin disease and even cancer.

“By donating high quality and nutritious food to shelters, we are able to improve the health and wellbeing of the dogs and allow shelters to focus on their resources and rehoming efforts. Healthy dogs are happy dogs who are more likely to be rehomed.”
