A third of Brits spend more on Christmas presents for their dog than their friends and family!

Christmas is fast approaching, which means people will be trying to find the best present for their family and friends. This, of course, includes our pets – from a dog to a rat, they all deserve a treat!

Gathering the public’s spending habits, dog-friendly holidays specialist, Canine Cottages, has found out how much people spend on Christmas presents for their dogs, compared with their friends, family and partners1.

The majority (33%) of Brits claim they spend between £26-£45 on their pooch: the same amount that Brits say they spend on a present for their family members!

In comparison, the majority (35%) claim they spend just £11-£25 on their friends, which is considerably less than their furry friends.

Nearly two in ten Brits (16%) also claimed they buy their pooch more presents than their friends, family and partner, proving we are truly a nation of dog lovers.

So, who pampers their pooch more? On average, men pay £24 on Christmas presents for their dogs, compared to women, who follow closely behind with £22. What’s more, almost one in five men claim they give their dog more presents than their partner, friends and family!

While men spend more on their dogs than women, the younger generation (18-24-year-olds) spend the most on gifts for their dogs with an average price of £29 for a Christmas present for their pooch. Almost one in four (24%) also give their dogs more presents than their partner, friends or family.

Commenting on the research, Shannon Keary, Digital PR Manager at Canine Cottages, notes: “We’re a true nation of dog lovers, so it’s not surprising to see that so many Brits spend more money on their furry friends than their friends, and the same amount as they would splurge on their family members. We believe that a Christmas present for pets should be as common as a gift to your parents – and the nation clearly agrees!”
