Appeal to find homes for five homeless cats at RSPCA Newport Animal Centre

The RSPCA is appealing to find loving homes in Newport for five homeless cats.

RSPCA Newport Animal Centre is caring for five special cats who have been looking for their forever homes for a long time.

Tess, Toby, Pud, Kevin and Teddy have been in the charity’s care for a combined time of 285 days and are desperate to find their forever home.

Kathryn Logan, at RSPCA Newport Animal Centre, said: “Sadly, we’ve seen rehoming at Newport Animal Centre slow right down in recent weeks. It’s unclear whether people going back to work and things reopening again may have slowed down rehoming but it means there are lots of cats currently in our care waiting for their forever homes, like these five sweeties.”

Six-year-old Tess came into the charity’s care in May in a very poor condition with a matted coat.  She is an independent cat but can be quite nervous with new people. However, she will happily head bump for affection but can get over-stimulated quickly.

Her skin was very sore when she came into the animal centre due to the thick matts pulling on her skin which had left her with some issues around grooming and means she doesn’t like to be brushed. The centre is working on a behavioural plan to help her with this and Tess’ new owner would need to continue this training.

Tess is an independant cat but can be nervous with new people.

Tess will need an adult-only home where someone is around most of the time to help her settle in. She will need plenty of space and lots of love too.

One-year-old Teddy is full of character, loves his food and loves fuss. He came into the charity’s care in June through no fault of his own as his owners could no longer care for him. He loves exploring the cattery, basking in the sun and playing with his toys. He is looking for an adult-only home where he can be the only pet.

He is a confident cat and although he likes some fuss, he is unlikely to be a lap cat and prefers attention on his own terms.  Five-year-old white and black cat Toby was found abandoned in a bag outside an office in May.

He is looking for a quiet home, and could live with older sensible children who will give him time to settle in.  He would prefer to be the only cat in the home and will probably spend more time chilling inside than exploring the great outdoors.

Three-year-old black and white cat Kevin is a special boy with lots of character. He came into the charity’s care in July after he was found as a poorly stray cat and taken to the animal hospital for treatment.

Kevin likes being groomed and he likes watching the world go by from his window. Unfortunately, he has been diagnosed with FIV+, but he is not on any medication and he is not symptomatic. However this does mean that he will need to be an indoor cat only so will need someone with a large living area and someone who can provide plenty of enrichment to keep him entertained.

Pud, a seven year old tabby cat, came into the charity’s care as a stray in June and now wants a home he can call his own. He loves spending time sunbathing and snoozing and enjoys his treats. Every day he is becoming more and more confident and would benefit from an owner who can be around to help build up his confidence. He would like a quieter, adult-only home.

If you think you can give any of these cats a loving home please contact RSPCA Newport Animal Centre on 0300 123 0744.

The animal centre in Newport is always looking for homes for the animals in their care, please keep an eye on their website and social media for more details.
