Battersea help puppy abandoned in supermarket bins

A young puppy found abandoned in supermarket bin has been given a second chance at a happy home thanks to the help of Battersea Brands Hatch.

Ten-week-old Mongrel, Pickle, found herself in dire straits after she was discarded in the bins of supermarket in Sidcup. Thankfully, a kind member of the public spotted the defenceless pup and quickly brought her to the safety of the Kent rescue centre.

The world-leading animal rescue centre is now urging members of public not to abandon their pets if they can no longer care for them, and instead bring them to the safety of a rescue centre like Battersea.

Michelle Bevan, Rehoming and Welfare Manager at Battersea Brands Hatch said: “We’ll never know the reason why Pickle had been so cruelly thrown away with the rubbish but being so young it is likely that her owners found the needs of a puppy too much to cope with.

“We’d urge anyone who needs to give up a pet to consider bringing them into a rescue centre. Abandoned animals, like Pickle, could end up in dangerous situations but by bringing them into a rescue centre you can ensure that they are safe, well-cared for and will have the best chance of finding a happy new home.”

Upon her arrival, expert staff at Battersea Brands Hatch were quick to give Pickle a check-up. Despite being found in less-than-ideal conditions, Pickle was fit and healthy and it wasn’t long before she was able to find a new home.

Michelle continues: “Battersea helps thousands of animals find their happy ending every year. We’d never judge anyone for needing to give up their pet and will be here for every dog and cat who needs our help.”

Battersea is asking the public to support their ‘Wear Blue for Rescue’ campaign where pet owners and supporters alike can help champion rescue animals, like Pickle, whilst showing their love for those who deserve a second chance in life. Members of the public are invited to show their support by proudly wearing the new Rescue symbol as a way to stand out, stand up, and unite all animal lovers far and wide.

To get involved with the campaign and ‘Wear Blue for Rescue’, animal lovers can buy items featuring the rescue symbol, wear it with pride, share on social media by tagging @Battersea and using #RescueIsMyFavouriteBreed and donate to help rescue animals everywhere.
