Dogs Trust Kenilworth’s oldest dog seeks retirement home

The staff at Dogs Trust Kenilworth are appealing for a home for their oldest resident who is the human equivalent of 98 years old.

Taking the accolade is Jamie who is 14-years old and found himself under the care of the Kenilworth rehoming centre after his owners were no longer able to care for him.

Jamie is well above the average age of a Dogs Trust dog, which is four and is well into his retirement years. But staff say the Labrador cross still has a lot of love to give.

The rehoming centre team say that Jamie is a sweet older chap who is hoping to capture the hearts of new owners who can offer him a forever home in his twilight years.

Claire Rowe, Dogs Trust Kennilworth’s Deputy Manager, said: “It’s especially sad when older dogs come to us but Jamie really deserves to find his special someone.

“Sometimes older dogs spend more time with us than younger dogs but there are so many advantages to having an older dog. They often need less exercise but are just as much fun, they’re used to living in a home and their personality is already shaped so new owners can really understand and appreciate the dog that they are welcoming into their family.”

The team say that Jamie has lived in a home before and is friendly with everyone he meets. He loves pottering about on his walks and could live with another calm dog and children over the age of 11.

Jamie is looking for owners who wont leave him alone for long periods and who can offer him a cosy bed where he can put his paws up and enjoy his retirement.

Claire added: “We want to put our Golden Oldies in the spotlight and we’re hoping we’ll see Jamie’s special someone visit the centre this week and see he’ll make the perfect addition to their family.”
