Frozen star adopts smuggled Maltese puppy from Dogs Trust

Love is an open door for Leo, as star from the West End Production of Frozen offers him a furry-tail ending.

After a tough start in life, a five-month old smuggled Maltese puppy, Leo, has found his ‘furever’ home with South West London based actress Stephanie McKeon and her husband.

Stephanie is set to play Anna in the West End production of Frozen when it re-opens following lockdown.

After he melted her heart on their virtual meet, the couple adopted Leo from Dogs Trust West London (Harefield) where he was being cared for along with his three siblings. They were rescued by the charity after being smuggled into the UK illegally.

Dogs Trust’s rehoming centres still remain closed to the public; however a small number of dogs are now available for adoption. Leo was adopted via Dogs Trust’s ‘handover at home’ system which has allowed the charity to continue to find new homes for a select number of dogs during lockdown, whilst adhering to social distancing guidelines.

Stephanie McKeon said: “We are already completely head over heels in love with our little Leo and we’ve had the most incredible time getting to know him so far. When we learned about the issue of puppy smuggling and heard of Leo’s difficult journey into the UK, we knew we wanted to do everything we could to offer him a good life.

“He’s already doing so well after just a short time with us and his confidence and personality are really shining through. Leo is so smart, funny, affectionate and loves a good cuddle as much as we do.

“We simply cannot speak highly enough of this wonderful charity and all of the incredible work they do to help offer animals like Leo a better life. Kyle and I feel so lucky that we are able to give this gorgeous little puppy his forever home thanks to the amazing people at Dogs Trust.

Richard Moore, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust London said: “Leo had a difficult start in life, but we’re hoping he can ‘let it go’ now he’s in his lovely new home with Stephanie and her husband. Throughout the virtual adoption process, it was clear that the couple could offer Leo the time and love he needs both now and in the future, when lockdown lifts.

“A lot of the team here are Frozen fans so we are so glad to have helped find Stephanie her ‘pawfect match’ and we are looking forward to going to see her in the West End production when it opens.”

During these difficult times, almost 1,400 stray and abandoned dogs are currently in Dogs Trust’s care.
