Happy ending for nine puppies found in plastic bin

It’s a happy ending for nine puppies found abandoned in a bin in Buckinghamshire, who are to feature on Channel 5’s Dog Rescuers programme.

The pups of various breeds were found after the RSPCA had an anonymous call about someone selling puppies from a van in the Buckinghamshire area.

Following the anonymous call RSPCA Inspector Mel Fisher went to investigate and found the puppies in a large plastic bin near a dumped van.

She said: “I’d received reports of someone selling extremely sick puppies from the back of a van in Gerrards Cross, so I went to investigate. I found a van dumped nearby and, tucked behind some bushes was a large plastic bin with 9 puppies inside.

“It was during the hot spell so they were panting and really quiet because they were in such baking heat.”

Inspector Fisher tool the puppies to a nearby vets to be checked over before moving them to the RSPCA’s Blackberry Farm Animal Centre in Aylesbury.

When Channel 5s Dog Rescuers team visited them a few weeks later, they were a picture of health and happiness.

“(When we rescued them) they were so unpuppy like, they were quiet and very thirsty, and to see them now acting like proper puppies causing chaos is just lovely because they are little personalities again, which is brilliant,” added Inspector Fisher.

The puppies – named Agnes, Barbara, Cheryl, Davina, Denise, Jerry, Jim, Joey and Norman – were split into groups according to their sizes and play styles. Te two smallest pups, Spaniel Agnes and Pug Norman, were paired off because they liked to play with each other.

Following their rescue, Inspector Fisher launched an investigation into how the dogs ended up in the bin, but sadly, hit a dead end. But after some time in RSPCA care, all the puppies were soon back to health and were quickly adopted by loving new families.

One of the pups – chocolate Labrador Jim, was rehomed by Gloria Westbrook from Bicester – now named Magnum, he has been with the family for 10 months.

“He brings a lot of fun and love to our home – an exercise!” said Gloria. “And he enriches our lives with laughter. He really is just a big, bouncy teddy bear.”

The puppy’s story will feature on tonight’s (24 July) episode of The Dog Rescuers on Channel 5 at 8pm, fronted by Alan Davies.
