International Friendship Day: Pawfect Pals

In the run up to International Friendship Day (30th July), research from Nature’s Variety has revealed that pets really are man’s best friend.

The findings show that 52% of pet parents confess to greeting their dog or cat before their partner or children when returning home, and 41% would even cancel their plans if their pooch was unwell!

Just under half of Brits (46%) also declare that their pet shows them the most acts of kindness, compared to their partner (37%) and children (15%). The kindest acts we think a dog or cat can do is loving their ‘pawrent’ unconditionally (54%), keeping us company (44%) and comforting us when we’re upset (30%).

A substantial number of people (40%) even admit to having full conversations with their pet, and over a third (38%) of us let our pets sleep in our bed with us!

Melanie Sainsbury, Veterinary Education Manager for Nature’s Variety, said: “Our pets are definitely part of the family, and it’s so lovely to see how many people would actually class their pet as their best friend. The research highlights how much of an impact our four-legged friends have on our lives, which is lovely to see.”

“With our pets giving so much to us in terms of friendship, it’s important that we make sure they know just how loved they are, and we all know the way to our furry friends’ hearts – food! Giving your pet the best nutritious and natural food, treats them with the ultimate kindness to keep them healthy and happy!”
