Kitten found inside a backpack in Hull is reunited with her owner

A kitten who was suffering from a concussion when she was found inside a backpack in some bushes in Hull has been reunited with her worried owner.

Tilly had gone missing from her home in Jipdane, Hull, on Wednesday 23 June, and her owner Sophie Moore had been desperately trying to find the young kitten when she spotted an appeal for information by the charity after it was believed the cat had been abandoned.

The kitten was found in a camouflage-print backpack in some bushes in Hardane in Hull on Sunday, 27 June. When she was found, she was walking in circles and the vets believed she had a concussion from suffering some kind of head trauma.

Thankfully, her owner made contact with the charity and RSPCA Inspector Laura Barber was able to reunite them on Friday 2 July. However, the exact details about how Tilly came to be in the backpack with a head injury are still unknown and both the RSPCA and the owners of Tilly are keen for answers.

Sophie said: “She literally came straight to me when Laura opened the carrier to let her out. She knows who her mum is! I’m just so thankful she’s back now and we’ve got her home. It was such a relief! Before she got out she was one of those cats who came to you on her own terms. Now she’s jumping on my shoulders and she wants to be with me all the time.”

Tilly’s owner Sophie was so relieved to have her 14-week-old kitten back after searching day and night to find her.

Sophie added: “We looked absolutely everywhere for her! We were trying to think where a kitten might hide, so we checked car engines on the street, bushes in gardens, we even went out late at night as she’s timid we thought she might have been more likely to come out when it’s quieter. I put her food bowl out and her litter tray to try and coax her back and I posted on Facebook and thankfully, through word of mouth, we managed to get her back.”

Tilly has settled back in well with the family and has been reunited with her sibling Tyson, the family’s other cat.

The kitten’s fur smelt very strongly of smoke when she was found so it is believed she had been kept in a house with people smoking inside. This and the backpack, are the only clues on what happened to the kitten during those four days she was missing.

Sophie added: “We’re desperate to know what happened to her. We just feel completely in the dark about it.”

RSPCA Inspector Laura Barber, added: “The details about how Tilly came to be found in the backpack are still unknown and the RSPCA is renewing its appeal for information to find out what happened to Tilly between the Wednesday and Sunday when she was missing from her loving home.

“We’re so pleased that Tilly has recovered from her concussion and that we were able to reunite her with her owner but we’re still very keen to find out what happened to her. If anyone has any information, please contact the RSPCA inspectorate appeal line, in strictest confidence, on 0300 123 8018.”
