Older dog seeks new digs after owner passed away

Dogs Trust Shrewsbury is seeking a retirement home for a 12-year-old dog who has found himself homeless after his owner passed away.

Border Collie cross Frank, is being looked after at the Shrewsbury rehoming centre after his owner sadly passed away but had registered for a Dogs Trust Canine Care Card.

This free service gives owners peace of mind, knowing that if they pass away, Dogs Trust will care for their beloved dog and find them a new home.

Lee Pogson, Supporter Relations Officer at Dogs Trust Shrewsbury, said: “Frank was obviously much loved, as his owner had made sure he would be immediately cared for if the worst were to happen. He is a lovely boy who still loves to play and has been with us for a few weeks now. He has settled in really well, but we would like him to find a new family as soon as possible so he can enjoy all his home comforts again.”

Although Frank is approaching is twilight years, he is still young at heart and loves a game of fetch with his two-legged friends. The rehoming team say he greets every day with a waggy tail and is happy to head out for an interesting walk before an afternoon snooze.

Lee adds: “We can’t fill the space left by his devoted owner, only a few new caring family can do that, but we’re making sure he is getting lots of TLC whilst he is with us. He will be a lovely addition to any family and we just home that he doesn’t have to wait too long for the comfy, cosy home with the loving new owners he deserves.”

Frank enjoys meeting other dogs when he’s out and about, but as an OAP – Older Age Pooch – he would prefer to be the only dog in the home, so he can enjoy all the attention of his new family. He can live with children aged ten or older but is too fond of felines so would be better off in a cat-free home.

If you would like to know more about the free Canine Care Card, or think you could give Frank his ideal home, you can contact the centre on 01952 98380, or visit www.dogstrust.org.uk.
