Pair of rabbits dumped next to bins in Enfield

The RSPCA is appealing for information after two rabbits were dumped outside a home in North London in a cat carrier.

The two adult rabbits, a white mini lop and a grey and brown lionhead, were found in a cat carrier in Southfield Road on Sunday 30 August after they had been dumped next to the bins in a member of the public’s front garden.

They contacted the RSPCA for help and Inspector Jack Taylor came to collect the rabbits. He said: “These two rabbits were found inside a small cat carrier and were abandoned along with a bin bag full of items including food, vitamins, treats and disinfectant spray.

“Inside the carrier was also a bowl with some food in it. It’s clear from this that somebody wanted the rabbits to be found and for them to be cared for. We do understand that people’s circumstances may change which means they can no longer care for their pets, but we’d urge pet owners to always reach for help if the worst happens.

“There is never an excuse to abandon an animal like this and dump them like rubbish. They were lucky they were found when they were, and the caller wasn’t away at the time or this could have been a very different story.”

The two rabbits are in good condition and have now been taken to RSPCA Southridge Animal Centre in Hertfordshire for care.

If anyone has any information, they should contact the RSPCA inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018.
