People’s Postcode Lottery players help thousands of animals in need

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home has revealed that they received an incredible £800,000 last year thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

The generous support has had a direct impact on the lives of thousands of animals that came through the gates of Battersea’s three rescue centres during 2018.

The funding helped the leading animal welfare charity continue their much-needed work across different areas including providing excellent veterinary treatment to the animals in their care and engaging with communities to offer support and advice.

During 2018, Battersea’s veterinary team helped thousands of dogs and cats with a variety of medical issues, ranging from minor dental work and neutering to major surgeries and long-term treatment costing tens of thousands of pounds.

The funds raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery helped many animals receive this vital medical care.

Once such animal was eight-year old Pug cross Florence, who had been hit by two cars, leaving her unable to walk. Battersea’s vets were unable to save one of her legs but after treatment and care, Florence was ready to start a new life in a new home.

Another abandoned animal who came to Battersea in need of medical treatment was Herbert the cat who arrived the charity’s Old Windsor centre last year. Herbert suffered with several health problems that require immediate attention.

After several treatments and procedures and a lot of loving care from staff and volunteers, Herbert was ready to go to his new home.

Amy Metcalf-McQueeny, Senior Philanthropy and Trusts Manager at Battersea, said: “We’re incredibly grateful for the continued support from the players of People’s Postcode Lottery and on behalf of all at Battersea, including the dogs and cats, we would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who plays the lottery. The money raised truly does make a real difference to the lives of the animals in our care and we couldn’t do it without support from the animal-loving public.”

Postcode Animal Trust is a grant-giving charity funded entirely through players of People’s Postcode Lottery, and has been supporting Battersea since 2014 and have raised a total of £2.9 million for thousands of the nation’s unwanted or abandoned dogs and cats.
