Pets at Home launches calming playlists for dogs

Ahead of Bonfire Night this weekend, Pets at Home has launched a set of three playlists designed to help keep dogs calm during the loud festivities.

The pet care specialist was inspired by research from the Scottish SPCA which found that reggae and soft rock are the best genres for reducing stress in dogs due to the beat of the music mimicking that of a mother’s heartbeat.

The soft rock, reggae and classical music playlists are now available on Spotify and offer more than two hours of tunes to help distract dogs and mask the sound of fireworks.

Pets at Home stores across the country will also be playing calming music in stores this week in the run-up to Bonfire Night to help keep pets calm while out and about.

Karen Heskin, Head of Pets at Pets at Home, said:“With Bonfire Night and Christmas around the corner, loud and busy activities will be at the centre of many households. Although we enjoy these times, it can be a really scary time for our dogs.

“It’s important to keep a close eye on your dog during the celebrations as they can often leave them feeling stressed and anxious. There are a number of things you can do to help ease this – one being the use of music to help distract and mask the loud noises. Sitting and listening to the music together will also help to build on your bond.”

Playlist #1: Sonny’s Soothing Soft Rock
