Pets at Home raises more than half a million in one month for hearing dogs charity

Pets at Home Group, which includes Pets at Home, Vets4Pets and The Groom Room, has pledged more than £550,000 to Hearing Dogs for Deaf People – the biggest donation the charity has received from a corporate partner in its 40-year history.

The pledge has been made through the Pets at Home Foundation, the charity founded by the Pets at Home Group as part of its mission to create a better world for pets and the people who love them.

It comes following a mega month of fundraising in July from Pets at Home customers and colleagues, which included till-point donations, money raised through special charity summer spa packages, and a sponsored 100-mile cycle from a team of colleagues.

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a national charity that professionally trains and provides dogs to support deaf people across the UK, helping them to leave loneliness behind and reconnect with life. The highly skilled dogs alert deaf people to important sounds such as the fire alarm, alarm clocks and intruder alarms, and provide love, companionship, and emotional support.

The money raised by Pets at Home’s colleagues and customers will support more than 300 of the organisation’s hearing dog partnerships for a whole year.

The total amount raised was revealed to the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People team by Pets at Home Group CEO, Lyssa McGowan, on a visit to the charity’s headquarters in Buckinghamshire this week (2nd August).

Lyssa McGowan, CEO of Pets at Home Group, said: “We are so proud and thankful to all of our colleagues and customers whose efforts throughout July have enabled us to give such significant support to an incredible charity. The work of the Pets at Home Foundation, and our mission to help create a better world for pets and the people who love them, is hugely important to us, and we’re committed to continuing to work together on that mission.”

David Robson, Head of Marketing for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to the Pets at Home Foundation for their amazing support. For 40 years we have been training hearing dogs to be partnered with those who need their remarkable skills most. This donation will allow us to continue growing those vital partnerships and help many more people for years to come.”
