Can you help a cat in need this Christmas?

Christmas has come early for the cats in RSPCA care as staff have crafted stockings for them ready to be filled with treats.

The Southall cattery is encouraging people to pop in and add a donation to any of the kitties that catch their eye or for those further afield they have an amazon wish list here.

Animal care assistant, Aneel Odhwani, said: “We like to do something special for our cats at this time of year as we feel they deserve it and of course it is Christmas for them too. We know Christmas is a busy time for people and some are unable to have a pet for lots of reasons so this way they can help to make Christmas a little brighter for a cat in RSPCA care.

“Some of our longer stay cats have even written letters to Father Christmas asking for a forever home in 2019. Reverse advent calendar are popular now and lots of people are thinking about how they can be kinder in the run up to Christmas and hopefully our lovely cats will benefit from that.”

The RSPCA is also running a national campaign urging people to give the gift of kindness this year.

Some of the cats looking for new homes this festive season include three-year old Shadwell, who is a very special boy in need of a home where he can build a bond with someone over time.

Staff at Southall cattery advise that Shadwell would need an adult family who are experienced with shy cats. He like to be sociable by talking to you and loves to watch everyone to see what the other cats are up to.

Five-year old Rocket needs a very special home with experienced cat owners who understand him. He is a nervous cat but is a gentle giant really – although he’d prefer an adult only household.

Tigger is a very sweet old cat, thought to be around ten-years old. Staff advise that he’d love to live out his twilight years in a home to call his own. He’s a lap cat and needs someone who could devote plenty of time and attention to him.

Throughout all of its centres, the RSPCA expects to be caring for 800 cats on Christmas day this year. Last December, the charity received more than 2,000 calls from people with concerns about cats.

If you are interested in adopting any of the cats above or any of the animals available for rehoming at the RSPCA, you can visit www.rspca.org.uk.
