Special old age pooch looking for his forever home

Dogs Trust Evesham is appealing for a home for a very special old age pooch who is the charity’s oldest homeless hound.

Sandy, a 15-year old Terrier is the human equivalent of 105 years old who is the oldest dog across Dog Trust centres in the UK and is looking for his fur-ever home.

The average age of a Dogs Trust dog is 4 years old and Sandy is well above that and well and truly entering his retirement years.

Despite his age, stag say that Sandy still has a lot of love to give and they are all hoping he finds a loving retirement home to relax in his twilight years.

Sandy came in with ten-year old Terrier Harry and staff would love to find a new owner who can offer double the love and is happy to adopt them both.

The rehoming centre is also keen to encourage people to consider the advantages of owning an older dog, which include:

  • They need less exercise but are still just as fun.
  • Their personality is already shaped so new owners can really understand and appreciate the dog they are welcoming into their family.
  • Older dogs are often calmer and more relaxing to be around.

Tracey Spiers, Assistant Manager at Dogs Trust Evesham, said: “Sandy is a truly wonderful old gent and whilst it’s sad to see when older dogs come to us through no fault of their own, Sandy is happy to receive lots of TLC from his canine carers.

“We’re really hoping somebody will open their home and heart to this mature chap really soon. Sandy is looking for a quiet adult-only home where he can keep someone company who is around for most of the day. He doesn’t need much exercise but is happy to go for a stroll or potter about in the garden. He is worried about new dogs, but could happily live with Harry if a new owner is willing to give double he love and rehome them as a pair.”

If you think you can offer Sandy and Harry a warm, loving home, please call 0300 303 0292.
