TV vet takes on marathon challenge to help animals in need

As the ballot places for London marathon are announced this week, the RSPCA asks runners to take on the challenge for Team Animal.

The charity is asking people to don their running shoes, start stretching and training and take on the iconic challenge for the RSPCA.

TV Vet Rory is taking on the 26.2 mile challenge.

TV vet Rory Cowlam, who works at The Neighbourhood Vet in Crofton Park, will be lacing up his running shoes for a cause close to his heart next year.

He said: “I have wanted to run a marathon ever since I was a kid. I have watched London every year and I get a real buzz from the crowds and the camaraderie that the marathon breeds.

“Over the past few years, I have become more and more involved in supporting the RSPCA and I am really honoured to be running the London Marathon for them in 2020. They are an incredible charity that echoes so much of my own sentiment towards and for animals.”

Rory has been an RSPCA supporter for many years, including presenting awards at the RSPCA Honours which celebrates inspiring people who have contributed to animal welfare and amazing animals.

Rory added: “I am a keen runner and cyclist so I will be looking for a half decent time. Last time I ran a half marathon, I unfortunately got injured so fingers crossed I will be able to overcome that this time round.”

The 26.2-mile race is a big challenge for many and raises over £25,000 for the RSPCA to help animals in need every year.

The RSPCA has a number of guaranteed places in the marathon but also encourages those who have their own place confirmed this week to consider joining Team Animal as well.

Signing up as an individual means there is no minimum sponsorship but it’s a great opportunity to help a worthwhile cause for any animal lover.

Runners will receive the same benefits and are asked to fundraise to help reach the team target.

All RSPCA London Marathon runner can enjoy:
