New study reveals that dozy Dachshunds are Britain’s laziest dogs

Dachshunds are Britain’s laziest pooches – resting for nearly 13 hours a day, a new study by Burns Pet Nutrition can reveal.

Renowned for their loyalty, brightness and devotion, these little-legged sidekicks enjoy lots of sleep, whether it’s in their bed or naps on laps.

The survey of 2,000 UK pet owners asked how much time their dog spends sleeping per day – with the average nap time across all breeds being 11 hours a day.

Beagles were second on the list of sleepy canines, snoozing for 12.1 hours per day and Greyhounds were third with 11.8 hours of sleep.

In contrast, German Shepherds were the most active of animals, sleeping only nine hours per day, followed closely behind by Pugs, whose owners insist they nap for 9.6 hours a day.

Nutrition Manager at Burns Pet Nutrition, Laura Crotch Harvey said: “Dachshunds can be very active dogs and enjoy a good amount of exercise, probably because they come from a working dog background, however they may tire easily due to their short legs and long bodies, so it’s no surprise that they sleep the longest. The balance between rest and activity is often a key factor to why many owners opt for a particular breed to join their family. I think most dog owners love that their dogs feel comfortable and rest in their bed or on laps… Dachshunds also love to snuggle under a blanket. Dogs bring so much joy to a home, and cuddles make it even better!”.
