Plasterer to scoot from Land’s End to John O’ Groats in memory of beloved dog

Lee Nicolaou, a plasterer from Bournemouth, is taking on an epic kick scooter challenge, riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats, to raise money for Dogs Trust and in memory of his beloved dog, Eddy.

After sadly losing 12-year-old Eddy to cancer last year, Lee felt so lost without his best friend he took up riding a kick scooter to help take his mind off his grief. Inspired by his scooter adventures, Lee decided to use his newfound hobby to commemorate Eddy, and to raise money to help many dogs find their forever homes, by riding his scooter the length of the UK.

Starting in Land’s End, Lee will be travelling on this Swifty adult kick scooter 965 miles to John O’Groats. He is aiming to complete the challenge in 13 days, averaging a tough 75 miles per day.

Speaking about his motivation for the challenge, Lee said: “Dogs are more than just a pet, they become your life and Eddy was mine. The experience of losing Eddy made me think about all the dogs that aren’t as lucky as he was to be loved unconditionally and have a lovely and fulfilled life. He gave me so much love and joy and I want to try and help even just one of the dogs in Dogs Trust’s care, so they too can enjoy a life filled with love.”

Lee sets off on his super scooter challenge on Wednesday 1 June and hopes to raise £1,000 for Dogs Trust.

Claire Rowe, the Manager at Lee’s local rehoming centre, Dogs Trust Salisbury, says: “This is quite a challenge that Lee is taking on, and we’re really looking forward to following his incredible journey. We’re so grateful that Lee has chosen to support us, it’s very much appreciated by the Dogs Trust team and of course our dogs. The funds raised will go towards helping us care for the dogs, including treats and training, and to find their forever families.”
