#ScoopThePoop: This is how you can get paid £700 to pick up dog poo

If your New Year’s resolutions is to be more active and enjoy the beauty of nature with your pet, natural dog food brand Harringtons has an amazing opportunity for you.

Harringtons is offering one lucky owner the chance to get PAID to pick up their dog’s poo as part of its #ScoopThePoop campaign.

The campaign sets out to encourage responsible dog ownership when out and about on dog walks in 2024 – particularly as pet parents can be fined up to £100 on the spot for not picking up poo.

Harringtons is on the hunt for one lucky pup to front the #ScoopThePoop campaign, communicating the message of the importance of picking up after your pet on social media. The winner will receive a year’s supply of Harringtons dog food

All prospective candidates’ owners need to do is fill in a form letting Harringtons know which park their pup enjoys walks in most (and therefore where they bin their poop). The successful applicant then needs to spread the word of the #ScoopThePoop on their Instagram, Facebook or TikTok channels twice in 2024 to receive a YEAR’s supply of dog food.

The #ScoopThePoop campaign also aims to encourage owners to monitor their dog’s health through its poo before it is picked up and binned, as it can often contain visual indicators of a pooch’s health and / or the dietary changes needed to show a vet.

Peter Wright, vet for Harringtons and star of Channel 5’s The Yorkshire Vet, reveals the importance of checking your pet’s poo: “Observant owners will be quick to notice changes in their dog’s stool, be it a change in colour, consistency or noticing foreign bodies within the stool. These may be indicators that all is not right in their dogs.

“The ideal deposit of dog poo is an easy-to-pass, and a varying light to dark brown stool. So, if you notice your dog straining to poo, or the consistency being harder or softer than normal, you may want to consult your veterinarian to find the cause of the issue.

“Sometimes, it may be the food your dog is eating. Food intolerances can affect your dog’s gut, and that issue will be presented in the way they poo or how the stool looks when it is passed, making it important to monitor alongside their diet, as the two go hand-in-hand. Feeding your dog a wholesome, nutritious (and maybe grain-free if they have a sensitive stomach) diet will help to contribute to regular, healthy stools”

A 2022 study found that excess dog poop and urine can over-fertilise the ground with nitrogen and phosphorous, causing an imbalance in the ecosystem and leading nutrient-dependant plants to outgrow the other species around them. Picking up in compostable bags and properly disposing of your dog’s poo has more than just an aesthetic benefit; it also helps your local environment thrive.
