Holiday-makers return home to find lost ferret in outside toilet!

A couple returning from holiday had a surprise when they found a lost ferret hiding in their outside toilet.

The holiday-makers returned home to Colchester, Essex, on 18 March, to find the female ferret hiding in their outside utility room and toilet.

RSPCA rescuer Jess Bush said: “They’d been away on holiday and when they returned they were shocked to find this fluffy ferret hiding out in their outside utility room and loo.

“They explained that there was a hole in the wall and it looks as though the ferret had clambered inside to hide. I went to collect her and took her to South Essex Wildlife Hospital (SEWH) who have been looking after her.

“She’s very friendly and so I’m sure she’s been a well cared for pet. I’d love to reunite her with her family so if anyone is missing a female ferret in the local area then we’d urge them to get in touch with us on 0300 123 8018.”

If she isn’t claimed by an owner then the team at SEWH will find her a new home.

Ferrets are charming, cheeky, playful and inquisitive characters and can make wonderful pets. Ideally they should be kept in pairs or groups as they’re very sociable. They can sleep for up to 20 hours a day but when they’re awake they’re very active and busy so they need lots of enrichment.
