Rescue me! The lonely hearts hoping to find pawfect match this Valentine’s Day

Dogs Trust Ilfracombe is hoping that these wonderful woofers won’t be in the Lonely Hearts club for much longer and they find their pawfect match ahead of the most romantic day of the year.

These rescue dogs have all put paw to paper to write to ‘Cupawd’ in a hope that someone will love them ‘droolly’, madly, deeply and rehome them for Valentine’s Day.

The four dogs eagerly awaiting a new family at the West Down rehoming centre are: three-year-old English Bulldog, Billy, Deano the three-year-old Giant Schnauzer, Ginger the eight-year-old Jack Russell Terrier and Nancy, a five-year-old Lurcher.

Elise Watson, Manager at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe, said: “These four wonderful dogs would love a new home for Valentine’s Day. They’re all different in personality and what they’d need from a new family, but the one thing they have in common is the desire to find a loving new owner ahead of the most romantic day of the year! If you have space in your heart to give one of our dogs a loving new home, we’d love to hear from you.”

Billy

Three-year-old Bulldog.

  • Arrived at the centre back in January 2019 from another organisation. He was rehomed but came back into the care of Dogs Trust Ilfracombe through no fault of his own.
  • He is currently relaxing and enjoying life in a foster home with the rehoming centres Training and Behaviour Advisor, Lindsay Maggs.
  • Billy enjoys short walks, he loves food and likes to show off his tricks for treats. In the summertime he likes to lounge around in the stream. Billy is looking for quite a specific home with a patient and understanding adult female as he has history of being uncomfortable around men.
  • He will need a home in a quiet environment and few visitors
  • Billy enjoys socialising with calm, friendly dogs when out and about but in the home, he is looking to be the only dog to have your undivided attention.
  • Billy will need to meet his new owner a few times prior to adoption, and he will need visits to his adopter’s home to get used to his new environment. To accommodate this, his adopter will need to live within an hour’s drive of the rehoming centre.

Nancy

Five-year-old Lurcher

  • Arrived at the centre in October 2021 due to owner’s ill health
  • She loves to be active and is happy to jump in the car to go for long quiet walks. She loves to play with soft squeaky toys and have a good sprint around with them outside.
  • She is affectionate and loving, enjoys a fuss and she settles well on a nice comfy bed. She is a smart girl who shows off her tricks for treats. She has good history of being an ‘office dog’ and could perhaps do so again in a suitable setup where she could be the only dog.
  • Nancy would need a pet-free home but could share her home with children as young as 11
  • She will need a home with a large garden and access to quiet walks in a low populated dog area. She can make friends with well-matched dogs but would feel overwhelmed in areas where there are lots of dogs around.

Deano

Three-year-old Giant Schnauzer cross

  • Arrived at the rehoming centre back in April 2021 as a stray.
  • Deano can be described as an ‘adult puppy’, with a larger-than-life personality.
  • He loves to go for walkies and have a good explore. He has come on leaps and bounds with his training and he knows lots of tricks for treats which is great to keep his clever brain busy. He enjoys playing with toys and playing scent games. He has a loving and affectionate side and loves to get cosy on a big comfy bed.
  • He can make friends with other dogs if he is introduced gradually. Quiet, peaceful walks are essential, so he does not have to feel overwhelmed with too much going on around him.
  • He is looking for a pet-free, adult-only home and he will need his adopters to visit him a few times before adoption.

Ginger

Eight-year-old Terrier and the Rehoming Centre’s Sponsor Dog

  • She first arrived at the centre back in 2014 as a stray. She has been rehomed a few times, which sadly didn’t work out due to fear of strangers. She has history of being uncomfortable around men and is therefore looking for a female-only home.
  • Ginger loves to play with squeaky toys, her favourite is her honking pig. She enjoys her walks and loves to sniff and explore and with the people she knows well and trusts. She is super affectionate and loving and when she knows you well, she can be quite the lap dog. She is a sassy girl, who has a few doggie pals that she loves to socialise with.
  • Ginger is looking for a very specific home with adult females, with very few visitors to the home. Ginger does take some time to get to know new people and any potential adopter will need to be prepared to visit the centre multiple times. Adopters will need to live within an hour of the centre so our training team can offer continued support. Ginger could potentially live with another dog in the home, a male dog who is tolerant as Ginger’s playstyle is boisterous.
  • Ginger loves to travel in the car and will need quiet, peaceful walks where she will not have to worry about passing strangers.
